I have had mine first chinchilla in -96. In Finland we do think, that feeding is a really important issue for the chinchillas. That´s why You shouldn´t eat for them peanuts, or raisins (at all), it´s kind of issue also, that they will not need any dried fruits, as fruits includes sugars, llike fructose. Also there is much more things, that are not suitable for the chins.

Chinchillas do live with good chinchillapellets, hay and sometimes with low salted dried dark bread. All thought some peoples do not care, what they should gave for their chinchillas. Good feeding is a base for healthy animal, that lives many years.

You know, peanuts does include that much fat, that is not good at all for the chinchillas! When they eat peanuts, in sometime their ears turn to yellow coloured, that´s a sign from liver problems. That is a seriuos decease. That´s kind of a bad sign, if chinchillas ears are yellow. You can only imagine then, that how they will suffer.

Raisins includes that much sugar, that it´s not a good thing for the chinchillas. Sugar is a way for them to get diabetes... And there´s not that much threatment for the chinchillas, when they get diabetes. I would think many times, what I do give for the chinchilla. Also sugar is a one of the issues, that will cause teeth problems. It´s not nice to see chinchilla, that has teeths, that have grown throught the jaw.

There´s a years experiences, that the farmers have done, that they have found suitable feeding for the chinchillas. If You do not care from it, that´s only the issue, that chinchilla will not live long times. They will die earlier, than normally they would.

Also salted pellets/foods does cause urinate stones. Like bad ratio bethween Ca/P (Calcium and Phosphorus).
